Mexico 2021 & 2022 (The Pandemic edition) Part I

MEXICO

Tulum

Tulum is just one of those places that you will fall in love once you visit it. It has a vibe to it and although small compared to Cancun or Playa del Carmen, it still carries its own weight and you will think it is much bigger than it really is. Maya dominated Tulum and you can still feel the Maya culture and see archeological sites all around. Some locals swear Tulum has a special energy that is unique to Tulum. They believe if you ask the universe for something while in Tulum, you will  get it.

Down Town Tulum during the Coronavirus era
All these roads are empty, but before the coronavirus era, these streets were packed with people. You do not need a car and walking or biking is the way to go around the city. Inn fact, it seems there are often as many bikes on the road on a normal day. Motor scooters are also popular for those who would rather not pedal around town.

Best time to go for a run is between 6am and 7am
What? A restaurant with my name? Now, that's what I am talking about.....

cenotes in the area.
Bacalar

Bacalar in Quintana Roo State is about a 40 minutes drive from Tulum and it is near the border with Belize. I really enjoyed my time in this town. Despite the absence of an actual beach, Barcalar is still a popular destination for tourists who enjoy swimming or being on any of the many beaches in Mexico this is because Barcalar is home to the impress Lagunar de Bacalar also known as the Lagoon of seven colors. Because of the different cenotes in the lagoon, the lake has different colors.

I don't think this big boy should be in here. They should be in the wild and doing what lions do. This guy was only about 6 months old.

Monterrey

Mexico has many mountains and trails to hike. I like the Chipinque mountain very much to hike. The peak of Copete del Aquila sits at 2,200m and is the highest peak (I think) in Monterrey. Great spot to hike and you can make this a difficult or medium-difficult hike. There are some steep spots, but you can avoid these. There are a lot of cyclists; mountain bikers on the trails and road bikes on the road.  Great place to hike and explore, beautiful scenery and lots of wildlife.

Huasteca Mountain

La Huasteca is an area just outside Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, filled with limestone mountains, many of which are long, thin and high, running in parallel lines like giant knife blades. Cañon la Huasteca, I read somewhere, is actually the beginning of the Sierra Madre Oriental, which extends south for 1000 kilometers.

This place is a must if you are a lover of nature. The River Catarina runs through it given the opportunity for people to swim or relaxed on its calm but rockyThe water is always freezing, no matter what time of year, but on a hot day, it feels amazing to sit in its shallow areas. Definitely great for hikers and climbers.
